I made a felt raindrop math activity for our math center. It was really easy to make and I did not use any patterns. One thing I do recommend is a good pair of fabric scissors which made cutting the felt so much easier. I took a piece of dark blue felt and used it as the backdrop for the rest of the pieces. I cut a sun that would fit in the corner ... grass that would go on the bottom of the background ... a large umbrella ... and eighteen raindrops. I left all of the pieces loose so the children could set the game up themselves. Children rolled the dice and then removed the same number of felt raindrops on the felt mat. Play continued until all of the raindrops had been removed. We also did it in reverse by rolling the dice and putting the same number of raindrops back on the mat. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: If you have been a follower of my blog you can probably tell by now that we love working with playdough. Last week the children made playdough cupcakes in the home living center to help celebrate a classmate's birthday. They used muffin tins ... cupcake liners ... playdough ... beads ... and straws. The children put the cupcake liners in muffin tins and then pressed the playdough into each section of the muffin tin. They then decorated the playdough cupcakes with beads and straws that they had cut prior to this activity. Please remember to use supervision with children under the age of three when working with small objects such as beads. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: |
