We did this project last year and it really turned out great. I'm posting it again in case some of you missed it as I still have a lot of material to bring over from my old site design.
We worked on this project over a three day period and not only did the children learn about the different seasons but they also worked on their fine motor skills by scrunching ... tearing ... cutting ... and pinching. We used large sheets of white construction paper and folded it into fourths. Brown lines were painted for the tree trunks (one per each of the four sections) and then children painted their hands and pressed their hands above the tree trunks.
After the trees were dry we decorated each one according to the seasons:
