I made ring bead counters for our math center. The children really loved working with them and not only are they great for number recognition and counting but also for fine motor skills.
I purchased large book rings from Staples but you can purchase them at any office supply store ... amazon.com ... and Walmart. I also purchased round wood beads from Michael's craft store and wrote a number on each of the beads.
I placed a numbered wood bead on each book ring and then added the same number of pony beads as the number on the wood bead. Children then counted the number of beads on each ring.
