I made Gingerbread Roll and Cover for early learning math skills and fine motor development. I printed the patterns on cardstock paper and then laminated them for durability.

You will need to have a dice and something to use as cover-ups on the mats. We used buttons but you can also use pom poms or playdough. I made three different types of mats ... one with blank circles ... one with numbers 1-6 ...  and another with numbers 2-12.

In this activity children roll the dice and cover up the same number of circles on the mat if using the blank mat. Children continue to roll the dice and cover the circles until all circles have been covered. Once the mat is full children can then roll the dice and remove the same number of cover-ups that is on the dice.

For the numbered mats children roll the dice and cover up the same number on the mats. For the mat with numbers 2-12 children roll two dice and add the two together and then cover up the number on the mat.

I made Turkey Number Punch Cards for number recognition and fine motor development. I printed the patterns on cardstock paper and cut them out. I then laminated them for durability.

The patterns come in both black and white as well as color. Children use a hole punch and punch the dot under the correct number that matches the number on the turkey.

You can also clip clothespins on the turkey cards. We use mini clothespins but the activity still works the same with regular sized ones. Another things you can do is apply glue to the correct dot and place a sequin on that dot.

The cards also make great poke cards. Simply punch a hole on all three dots and flip the card over and make a circle around the correct dot. Children use a poker (we use a golf tee) an put it through the hole they think is a match and then they flip the card over to see if they are correct.

Using the cards with hots dots is also a favorite activity. Apply the cold dots to the incorrect matches and the hot dot to the correct one. Children then use a hot dots pen and press the tip to the hot dot.

I made a pumpkin activity to work on early math skills as well as fine motor development. I printed out the pattern on cardstock paper. If you are not going to be using glue with this activity I recommend laminating the pumpkin mats for durability.

The patterns come in both black and white as well as color and also with or without dots. The color patterns come with a blue sky or just a white background so you have a variety of patterns to work with to suit the needs of how you will be doing the activities.

Besides the pumpkin mat you will need to have pumpkin seeds and dice for the children to roll. We also use school glue that we put in a small container with q-tips. I also do the activity with no glue so the mat is re-usable.

In this activity children roll the dice and put a pumpkin seed on the same number of dots on the mat. Play continues until all dots have been covered. We also work in pairs with each child having their own mat ... dice ... and pumpkin seeds. They take turns rolling the dice and covering the dots on the mat.

Children can also do a pumpkin craft by simply gluing the seeds on the pumpkin. This can be done with or without dots. The children can color in the black and white pattern first before gluing the seeds on. You can see a video of this activity and download the patterns below.

I have created a blank mat where children can roll the dice and count and cover the same number of black circles on the mat. I have also created mats with numbers 1-6 and numbers 2-12.

When using the numbered mats children roll the dice and cover up the match number on the mats. Play continues until all blank circles or all numbers have been covered on the mats.

owl number sliders for preschool and kindergarten math
I made owl sliders for number recognition and review as well as fine motor skills. I printed the patterns on cardstock paper and laminated them.

Using and x-acto knife I sliced along the two lines on the owl. Taking one of the letter strips I pushed the left end up through the right slice of the helicopter and pulled it down through the left slice.

In this activity children pull the numbers strips through the owl and read the number that is displayed in the center of the owl. Once all numbers have been identified on the strip a new strip is put in.

Pumpkin Seed Transfer Preschool and Kindergarten Math and Fine Motor Activity
We love working with pumpkins seeds ... there are so many things your can do with them!! I set this activity up in our math center using two pumpkin bowls that I purchased from Target.  You can use any kind of bowl or container that works for you.  I put the pumpkin seeds in one of the bowls and set out a pair of jumbo tweezers along with dice.

The children rolled the dice and then used the tweezers to transfer the same number of pumpkin seeds into the empty bowl.  They continued to roll the dice until all of the pumpkins seeds had been transferred. This activity can also be done without the tweezers and/or the dice.
