I made color sequence cards that would show the children what color pattern to follow when making their chains and set them out with the construction paper strips and glue sticks.

We made rainbow chains which is a great activity for fine motor development ... color recognition ... and hand-eye coordination. I began by cutting construction paper into 1" wide strips. I used the six colors that make up a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple).

I did not put the construction paper strips in order as I wanted the children to use the color sequence card. They started with the red strip and glued the ends together and then took the orange strip and laced it through the red link and glued the ends together. They then repeated with the rest of the colors until they built their chains. Most children did three or four rainbow sets.

We made paper plate rainbows for the final project of our rainbow theme. We started by cutting the paper plate into a cloud shape. We applied glue drops on to the paper plate and pressed cotton balls onto the glue. We then cut construction paper in to 1 inch wide strips and glued them on to the bottom back of the paper plate. Children used the color sequence guide from when we made our rainbow chains. The next step was to punch a hole at the top of the paper plate and attach a pipe cleaner and twisted the ends closed. To add extra sparkle we applied glue drops to the cotton balls and construction paper and then sprinkled our jumbo glitter on the glue. I printed the cards on cardstock paper ... cut them out and laminated them. In this activity the children find the letter that matches the letter on the pot of gold. They then clip that letter with a clothespin. You can grab the patterns for free until Sunday March 15th ... after that they will only be available in the member's section. |
