I made a shamrock cover-up for the children to work on fine motor development as well as eye-hand coordination. I've included the cover-up circles which I always attach self-adhesive magnets to the backs so that children can pick up and move them easier.
The children really love these cover-up activities and they can use a variety of materials with them. Besides the cover-up circles we use pom poms and playdough balls. I also print out the black and white version on regular paper instead of cardstock and the children use do-a-dot markers or bingo daubers to cover the blank circles.

I love how easy this activity was to set up!! I purchased large plastic eggs and wrote a number on each one with a permanent marker. I put the eggs in a basket and pom poms in a separate container. I put magnets on the bottom of my pom poms for extra weight and also because the magnets stick together and the children need to pull them apart but you do not have to. Children picked an egg and identified the number on the egg. The next step was to open the egg up and put the same number of pom poms in it and close the egg. Children also needed to find the pom poms that were the same color as the egg. The children really enjoyed this math and fine motor activity. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: I made an umbrella pom pom match to go along with our umbrella theme this week. I traced around a small bowl on six different colors of cardstock paper and cut the circles out. I then cut around 1/4 of each circle off so it formed an umbrella shape. The next step was to glue a handle on to the bottom of each umbrella shape. I put out a bowl of pom poms that were the same colors as the umbrellas. On the bottom of each pom pom I attached a magnet to add weight to the pom pom and also so the activity could be done on a magnetic surface. The children put the pom poms on the same color umbrellas. They then counted how many were on each umbrella and which umbrella had the most and which had the least pom poms. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: |
