Gobble ... gobble!! We made playdough turkeys today and the turned out so cute!! All you need is playdough ... craft sticks or feathers ... wiggle eyes ... and construction paper. Children made a large ball and smaller ball out of playdough. They put the small ball on top of the larger one to make a turkey body. They pressed wiggle eyes on to the head. They cut a beak ... gobbler ... and feet out of construction paper and pushed them into the playdough. The last step was to put the colored craft sticks (or feathers) into the back of the larger playdough ball for the turkey feathers. You can see a video of this activity by clicking below: This is a great activity for a math center as well as for fine motor development. I made turkeys without feathers and numbered them from 0-30. I set the turkeys out on a table along with a basket of colored clothespins. Children put the correct number of clothespins on each turkey and when they finished they removed the clothespins and put them back in the basket. To make the turkeys strong enough to hold the clothespins I printed them on cardstock paper and laminated them. The free daily printable this week is Turkey Number Sequence Sticks which is a great activity for number recognition and review. In this activity children put the turkey sticks in numerical order. You can also make a matching activity by printing two sets of the turkey number cards. Grab the patterns for free until Sunday November 23rd ... after that they will only be available in the member's section. We love working on fine motor skills development in our class. I purchased craft feathers from Michaels craft store and set them out with matching color pony beads. Children put the same color beads on the feathers by lacing them onto the bottom of the feathers and pulling them to the top. They laced as many beads as they wanted on each feather. Once they had the beads on the feathers they counted how many beads were on each feather noting which feather had the most beads and which had the least. Children place a number card on the pilgrim and then put the same number of buttons on the Pilgrim mat. I printed the pattern on cardstock paper and glued it on a piece of colored cardstock paper. The children also used jumbo tweezers to pick up the buttons and place them on the mat. You can see a video of this activity by clicking below: |
