I made a color sorting activity that we did in an outdoor center today. I used landscaping rocks for this activity but you can also use river rocks which can be purchased at places such as menards and lowes. I painted the top of the rocks with white acrylic paint (non-toxic) and let them dry and then painted another color on top of the white paint. I used seven different colors for our color sort but you can use more or less if you wish. I placed the rocks in baskets and the children sorted them by color and then counted how many were in each color group. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: I made a dinosaur roll and cover activity for our math center. I printed the patterns on cardstock paper and laminated the dinosaur mat. I cut out the cover-up circles ... laminated them and attached a magnet to the back of each one. You can also use playdough or pom poms instead of the cover-up circles for this activity. I made the mats with numbers 1-6 and also 2-12. Children roll the dice and cover up the same number on the dinosaur mat. Play continues until all numbers have been covered up. If you are using the mat with number 2-12 you will need to use two dice and the children would find the sum of the two dice and then cover up the matching number on the mat. The free membership printable this week is a dinosaur alphabet file folder game which is a great activity for letter recognition and review. In this activity children put the letter circles on the matching letters on the dinosaur mats. Grab the patterns for free until Sunday August 24th ... after that they will only be available in the member's section.
The free daily printable this week is Schoolhouse Number Sequence Match which is a great activity for number recognition and review. In this activity children put the schoolhouses in numerical order and then place the matching number circle on top of each school house. Grab the patterns for free until Sunday August 17th ... after that they will only be available in the member's section.
My website childcareland.com was established in 2000 and for the most part it had pretty much stayed the same for the past fourteen years. This summer I decided it was time for a change and so I have created a website that combines both my blog and my printables.
I believe the new website (which also includes mobile version) is easier to navigate and will provide more opportunities for interactions with you. All of the goodies are still here ... my free printables ... my latest videos ... and my teaching ideas and soon the download and cd store will be up and running. There are still a ton of things for me to add to the site before it is truly finished but I will get it done with time and your patience. I hope you enjoy the new site and if you have any questions or comments please let me know. Thank you!! Shelley Lovett childcareland.com |
