I made this turtle roll and cover activity for the children to work on their number recognition skills. I printed the patterns on cardstock paper and laminated them. I attached self-adhesive magnets to the back of the cover up circles so that they would have a little more weight to them even though we did not use magnetic boards for this activity. The children rolled the dice and then covered up the same number on the turtle mat. Play continued until all of the numbers on the turtle mat had been covered up. I made two different mats ... one with three sets of numbers 1-6 and another with numbers 2-12 that could be used with two dice. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below:
We love working with playdough and today the children made pladough ice cream cones using a playdough mat I created for this activity. They could use any color of playdough they wanted and they molded and pressed the playdough into a ice cream scoop shape and placed it on the mat. They then took pony beads (which we also love) and pressed them into the ice cream cone.

The free membership printable this week is an ice cream cone number sequence match which is a great activity for number recognition and review. In this activity children put the ice cream cones in numerical order and then put the matching number circles on each ice cream cone. Grab the patterns for free until Sunday June 22nd ... after that they will only be available in the member's section.
During the summer we do a lot of outdoor centers. Today I put together lego sensory tubs and the children had a blast with them. I selected larger blocks such as duplos and mega blocks for the younger children and put them in the tubs. If you have older children you can use regular legos. I made sure I had a variety of colors and number of connectors on the blocks and then I filled the tubs with water. The children sorted through the blocks connecting blocks that were they same color. They also free played the the blocks making different structures and I also included animals ... plants ... and people for them to play with. You can see a video of this activity here or by clicking below: For the last of our ladybug center activities I made a ladybug letter match. The ladybug mats come with both upper and lowercase letters as well as the matching letter circles. I printed the mats on cardstock paper and glued them on to colored cardstock paper. I also printed the letter circles on cardstock paper and then laminated the mats and the circles to add durability. The children matched the letter circles to the letters on the mat and were able to do an upper to upper ... upper to lower ... and lower to lower case match. |
